Still posted at Film Threat for new film, Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

The WV Filmmakers Festival and hopefully the WV International Film Festival both want to present the two new films based on the life of Boone County’s most infamous citizen, Jesco White, known as “The Dancing Outlaw.” Thousands attended Jesco White Night at Charleston’s Power Park last week, some receiving free Jesco bobble heads. On almost a daily basis, I received Google news alerts about the two new films based on Jesco’s life, “White Lightnin” and “Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.” ( Here is Film Threat magazine’s review of “Wild.) The two films have been shown at the Edinburgh  Film Festival, in South Africa, and lots of other places.

Despite many e-mails, I am unable to get copies of either film from the distributors. I hope that someday the people of West Virginia will get a chance to watch the two films – they ARE adults after all. (See the trailer for “Wild” at YouTube, elsewhere.

In the meanwhile, you can watch Jacob Young’s two great documentaries plus Mike Seeger’s film about Jesco’s father called “Talking Feet” distributed by Les Blank’s Flower Films

Flower Films was the only VHS distributor of “Dancing Outlaw” for a long time. The world lost a great musician last Friday when  Mike Seeger passed away.  He traveled to San Francisco from his Virginia home to play with WV’s own two great labor folk singers, Hazel Dickens and Elaine Purkey, to honor Archie Green.
