Scott McClanahan is one of the two filmmakers that comprise Beckley-based filmmaking group Holler Presents. He has a new collection of short stories that was published by Six Gallery Press called “Stories.” Here is a description Chris Oxley sent me -

“ In STORIES, McClanahan writes about his West Virginia boyhood, flying possums, funerals and old giants sleeping beneath ancient mountains.  It’s a book full of sawmills and severed arms, and finally, returning once again to a town called Rainelle.

Chris Oxley (other half of Holler):  He’s bringing back the anecdote and makes you wonder why it ever left.  The book is like a great pop record:  you can read it in an hour and hum a few bars from it days later.”

Chris recently sent me a link for a completely stupid review of their great new dog film, ” The Education of Bertie Mae McClanahan.” Now we know where the pooch got her last name. Virtually everyone who has seen the film including myself think it’s a masterpiece.
