Thanks for writing this. I am a wine writer in Canada and my approach for the last 30 years has been mood and context focused. I've done 'Wine by Mood' tastings to over 5000 average consumers ...and they really are relieved and really appreciate it. The wine geeks freak of course!

The bottom line is wine and food at the table connects us to what's important, and that's always the people at the table.

Rich: Thanks. Rating beverages is obviously a subjective process, but I think we're all affected by external influences like where we drink, with whom we imbibe and the mood we are in. That's why I enjoy sipping a pint with you at Okay's. It always puts me in a good mood regardless of the quality of the liquid!

Good stuff John... It's amazing what the "setting" can do. I tend to be a left-brain realist on a lot of things, but there's no arguing that presentation and atmosphere are important ingredients in our food and drink.
