
Legislation to force West Virginia regulators to adopt a key new water pollution standard died during this year’s legislative session. And a bill to require reporting of more information about oil and gas drilling pollution also died, after the industry tried to hijack the measure.
It’s just a coincidence, but in the wake of these failed legislative efforts to address water quality, the state Department of Environmental Protection announced it was starting to accept public comment on the latest version of its list of “impaired streams.”
