Just heard over the squawk box that the menu labeling bill — which would require chain restaurants to post calorie counts — was rejected in the Senate. The vote was 14-19, with one member absent. Phil’s up there now, so there should be more details later.
At the House floor session this morning, Republicans tried to push along efforts to amend the state Constitution to ban gay marriage — but were shot down pretty quickly. House Minority Leader Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, called for the “Marriage Protection Amendment” resolution to be discharged from committee and brought to the full House, but Democrats used procedural motions to squash debate on the issue and successfully postponed Armstead’s motion indefinitely.
