kingkat.gifLooks like West Virginia’s record for blue catfish will fall once again.

An angler in the recent Cabela’s King Kat tournament on the Ohio River’s Gallipolis Pool hooked and landed a 29.75-pound blue cat. If confirmed, the catch would topple the existing weight record of 27.2 pounds, set last year by a fish from Mason County’s Krodel Lake.

Tim and Lynn Lange of Springfield, Ohio, were credited with the catch. No word yet on which one actually wielded the rod.

The record-setting blue cat highlighted a day of remarkable catches. The first-place team – Janet and James Fox of McArthur, Ohio, caught seven fish that totaled 90.2 pounds, including a tournament-best flathead that weighed 41.15 pounds.

Other top finishers included:

Randy McWilliams (Wellston, Ohio) and Larry Lange (Springfield, Ohio) — seven fish, 75.75 pounds;

Andy Fetty (Pomeroy, Ohio) and Brian Fetty (Point Pleasant, W.Va) — 61.75 pounds;

Danny and Connie Caudill (Williamson, Ohio) — 60.5 pounds; and

J.C. and Randy Albright (W. Columbia, W.Va.) — 57.25 pounds.
