Ready for some … status quo?

Fresh off the wire…

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott says Texas has turned down an invitation to leave the Big 12 and join his conference.

In an e-mail to The Associated Press, Scott confirms that Texas has rejected the Pac-10′s offer.

The news first was reported by The Dallas Morning news.

I’m thinking realignment is over for the time being. I’m guessing the Big Ten is holding out for Notre Dame to come to its senses, and then it would pick off a Big East team. For now, nothing more.

Conference USA stays intact…

I’m inclined to view this as a good thing for Marshall and their future aspirations.

Last week, AD Mike Hamrick told a full house at Sleepy Hollow that he felt Marshall had time to get itself in better position. Not sure whether he knew something or was playing a hunch, but MU now does have some time. Time to elevate your game, folks.

The only benefit from a “mega-conference” is to choke out the teams not currently in the BCS. The BCS programs are tired of the Boise States, Utahs, & TCUs of jumping up & stealing their money & top 25 spots. The only problem in their plan, is they also wanted to exclude some lower-tiered BCS programs too like the rest of the Big 12 north and possibly the Big East. They soooooo want to take that BCS bid from that conference, but can’t.

Not Utah is in the Pac10. I think their next target will be the Big East. If you take 2 or 3 teams from there, they won’t be able to sustain because any replacement team won’t have the basketball prestige to gain entrance, therefore they drop football as a conference.

WVU, Syracuse, & Pitt will probably end up OK, but that’s not guaranteed. If I was Louisville, Cincy, Rutgers, UConn, or USF I’d be worried……REAL worried that I’d be in a non-BCS conference in 4 or 5 years.
