This just in from Patriot Coal:
Patriot Coal Corporation today reported that its Federal No. 2 mine near Fairview, West Virginia has resumed operation. The Company’s enhanced ventilation plan has been implemented following approval from the U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety & Health Administration. Production at the mine was suspended on February 18.
“Our team has worked hard to successfully address MSHA’s concerns and implement this enhanced ventilation plan. We are pleased that the Federal mine has resumed operation in a relatively short period of time,” said Patriot Chief Executive Officer Richard M. Whiting. “Maintaining a safe work environment for our employees has been our overarching goal as we suspended production and now reopen the mine. Consistent with our mission statement, safety will continue to be our highest priority and the cornerstone of our relationship with our employees.”
As we’ve reported, Federal No. 2 is the subject of federal criminal investigation that is looking into alleged falsification of methane tests by mine managers.

I am always pleased to hear when employees can once more get back to their mining jobs. It was kind of bittersweet to hear of the foremen being discharged, due to false reports made by them. The face bosses are under tremendous pressure to maintain good production, while trying to keep the mine safe.
