I agree Mr Braun, where was the outrage when Peabody and the umwa were building this operation near the school. It just shows how people are against non union coal and all for union mines. It makes you wander why?

We may be the one of the poorest states because we keep electing yhe same politicians. In a value added economy the dollar amount will turn over 6 to 7 times. I still don't have an answer about not hearing any protest against this mine when it was union. I suppose Lincoln High School, Wyoming East and Mount view are some of the poorest schools in the state. If thier are poor schools in our states coalfields it is because the school building autority selects the areas that gets the new ones. Looking at the funding for MACED it doesn't suprise me that the study of coal you cited was a negative one. Look who supports them. Just follow the money.

Massey is costing the taxpayers more than we are getting in return. See Dr. Hendryx's study and the MACED study. What I can't figure out is if coal is so great for us then why are we either the poorest state in the nation or the second poorest state in the nation. It seems like the poorest schools are in the coal fields as well.

Hey, Alum Creek Girl. This is a tough one. Can you supply the name of any resident of Logan, Lincoln or Boone County who left the unemployment rolls due to the 1.5 billion dollars you claim. If so I will donate $1,000.00 to the American Cancer Society in your name. You may also be surprised to find out that a Chicago company was paid to decide what money went where without consultation with elected officials from your and my district. Also, did you notice every vehichle involved in painting the bottom of the bridge at Alum Creek has Florida plates. I did!!!!!!!!!!

Why don't the politicians really step up to the plate and end mountaintop removal. That would solve a lots of problems in our state along with Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky. The action the pols have taken is but a drop in the bucket! They do not address the real problem.

Well here's a win - win situation if I ever saw one. Mr. Blankenship can
move his office out of the little dinky trailer and into the school. Then Massey Energy can build another school out of harms way. The community gets a new school and Massey and Mr. Blankenship have a great WV office. If the impoundment ever breaks I wonder if Massey would then call it AN ACT OF GOD as they would have if it just washed away the school.

Mr. Abraham may have a good idea in using stimulus money for a new Marsh Fork school. WV is receiving 1.5 billion in stimulus funding and unlike Mr. Abraham, I've seen lots of it in use. Too bad, though, that so much has to go to repairing roads that coal trucks have destroyed. And, don't think there's enough money anywhere to fix all of the damage that coal has done to our state and its citizens. How many more mine disasters, destroyed communities, broken bodies and polluted streams can we take? If "Coal is West Viringia", now I know why we're always 49th or 50th and have been for decades.

Not to gripe but where has Rahall been the last five years we have been working on the Marsh Fork issue? The first protests and TV coverage at Marsh Fork were in Summer 2005, now its Fall 2009 and Rahall finally acknowledges what should have been obvious to him 4 years ago - if he had just looked at the situation one time for 5 minutes. Seems like Rahall is really out of touch with the issues in southern WV.

Well the last post I made here was removed by Ken Ward, Jr notwithstanding it was 100% factual. Only Junior and the Gazette would violate the First Admendment Rights of citizens who disagree with them. So lets try this one. I think moving the school is a great idea. But, let us do it with some free Obama money. Let Massey use their money to put in another coal mine and employ some folks. With nearly a trillion dollars being wasted, 20 million for a worthy project shouldn't take more than five minutes for our most senior delegation to secure. Other than a couple of useless projects along 119, I havn't seen much of the stuff being spent in WV anyway. And since everything is free, we may want to go ahead and move the new school beside the chemical plant at Dupont, and those in South Charleston and Nitro. Just a thought?

Massey Energy, Inc. did reply to Senator Byrd's statement. They were susprised by Senator Byrd's statement, and that he made such a statement without knowing that Massey has not been asked for any contribution to build a new school by the proper authorities. What does Mr. Blankenship want? For Byrd to bow down to him as some of the other people in Charleston has? I don't think that will happen. Come on now Mr. Blankenship, open up one of your piggy banks and help build that school.

Mountain Top Removial mining is under enough fire from the U.S. EPA about the mining permits, without Massey giving them further fuel for the fire.

Work in peace, live in peace with your neighbors. Will Governor Manchin join Byrd, Rahall, in their call to Massey to build a new school. Don't look for it.

Governor Manchin made the statement today that he was willing to work with anyone for a solution to this problem. Well, how many times have you even visited the Marsh Fork Elementary School site, and seen how close the silos and sludge dam are to the school. Do you even know where Sundial is?

Get on your big Harley Davidson and come up Route 3 from Charleston, and you can't miss it. Look at the beautiful places along the way. Maybe you would like to build a house up that way. Be sure and check out the water first tho, and make sure it is clear and fit to drink. We are waiting for Rockefeller to join in with Byrd and Rahall.

Hooray for Congressman Rahall, thank you. To answer Nanette, myself and Mr. Webb stopped by the Governor's office today to ask the Governor to speak out with Senator Byrd and ask for a new school. The Governor's man, Mr. Turner called me and answered with the same old spin - " We stand ready and willing to help but this must come from the local level, the school board must ask the School Building Authority for the money to build a new school by Nov. 1".

Thank you Mr Rahall! Thank you Senator Byrd! Massey doesnt need to help build the school.. Mr Blankenship could do it out of his own pocket. With his compensations, he could build a handful of schools in one year.

I want to see how Manchin responds to this. Someone should ask his opinion about our Congressional Reps who are speaking out against Massey now.

We all know what Massey thinks.

Well here's something you don't see every day, WV politicians standing up to Don Blankenship! It's ridiculous that Massey refuses to make sure schoolkids are safe from the hazards Massey themselves have created!! Good for Byrd and Rahall, now let's see how Don responds....
