Bridge Brew Works Beers get a Great Review!

January 12, 2012 by Rich Ireland

The latest issue of Beeradvocate magazine posted solid reviews for both Bridge Brew Works “Tripel” and “Dubbel” beers. The Triple was given an 88 along with a new nickname of “Chaos in a Bottle” while the Dubbel scored a very impressive 91 and begged the reviewers to question if they had awakened in Belgium again.

It’s great to see some West Virginia craft brews not only getting some “palate-time” at Beeradvocate but also scoring very respectably!

BBW packages the Tripel and Dubble exclusively in 750ml bottles. Both are available at The Liquor Company, The Wine Shop and for consumption at Pies and Pints and Bridge Road Bistro.

BBW has posted a link with a picture of the article for those who do not get the Beeradvocate magazine – Here –  http://ow.ly/i/pykL

Congratulations to Ken and Nathan at Bridge Brew!

Hey Rich thanks for the plug. We are pretty happy with the results.
BA has the Tripel down as being 11.1% which is a mistake that I (Ken) made when BA called for more info. The Tripel was just over 9% ABV. We are surprised that the Dubbel rated higher than the Tripel. The Dubbel by now has a lot of age on it for a 7% beer with very low hopping, so I was surprised it rated so well. We know that we can improve on it and will have the chance to do so in a couple of months. We aren’t sure about the comments for the Tripel. It had very low hopping with German Noble hops and no spices of any sort so I don’t know why the comments included “leafy hops and medicinal herb”. Unfortunately we didn’t send these in at their peak. At its peak the Tripel and a nice peppery flavor. Our current bottle offerings are the Trubell which is 11% a deep blond, unfiltered and a bit fruity – it was aged for 14 months. We also have a barley wine named Old Burly that is malty and balanced even though it was brewed with an est 75 IBUs plus flavor and aroma hops and then dry hopped. It was brewed at the end of June so the hops have had time to mellow out. It is 9.06 % ABV.
The Charleston area folks should stop by and see us at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort on Jan. 28 for a beer show they are doing from 4:30-7:00 pm. I hear there will be live ice sculpting with chain saws.

First off, congrats to BBW. Keep making WV proud.

    Now on to the complaining…

As is usually the case, I find myself (self described beer-geek) stumbling upon information about a “beer event” in the comments section of a blog, rather than being notified about it via any currently available form of digital communication. I tried going to the Mardi Gras site to gather more info and found this:

“Watch artists as they sculpt ice into masterpieces 4:30pm-6:30pm and compete for cash prizes totaling $2,000! First 200 Giveaway! The first 200 in the outdoor grandstand seating area (beside the greyhound racetrack) at 6pm will receive ice scrapers, cash or Casino cash and a ticket to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

Vote for your favorite ice sculpture to win the People’s Choice Award and you could win $500 just for voting! BEER Festival! Join us in the Big Easy Lounge 4:30pm-7:30pm for a beer tasting.”

As you can see, that was worthless. It’s no wonder we struggle to grow beer appreciation in this area. People organizing “events” don’t even try to get info out to those of us that would be their base supporters. So does anyone know more about this event?

Agree with Ron Porsey…….. It was because of reading this blog (and its comments) that i found out about the cross lanes event. When i found out about it, i sent out an email to a few coworkers who all plan to attend.

Likewise with the beer class event at the Clay Center. I wouldnt have known about it unless i would have went to the clay center site. Now my wife and i both are signed up for it and a few others are thinking about it just because i have shared word of mouth.

Is there some sort of mailing list that can be set up via this site that keeps us informed about craft beer/brewing events?

By the way. Congrats BBW keep making WV Proud! How about a Black IPA?

I emailed Mardi Gras Casino a few days ago asking for more details. They have yet to respond.
