I am Gonna have to say that this is “Over the Top”…

July 22, 2010 by Rich Ireland

It’s not about animal rights or any of that mumbo-jumbo, It’s just the fact that it’s Crass marketing. Sure, it is working, after all here I am blogging about it!

Brew Dog is quickly becoming the “Emperor with no Clothes”. Several months ago they sent me one of their other “marketing ploy” beers (not to be confused with “Marketing Ploy” – a beer offered by Three Floyds). That beer was called “Transatlantic IPA”, a beer that was carted around the Atlantic Ocean in a barrel strapped to fishing trawler for several weeks. It was $26.00 per bottle and not worth 10% of that.

Okay, are you ready???

Are you supposed to eat the roadkill with the beer or afterward?….
They seem obsessed with image making. I don’t think this is a good thing for the craft beer industry. It is supposed to be about the beer, not the packaging or marketing. IMHO.

I’ve seen this story in several lay media articles, but was waiting for something in an industry mag. How are they actually achieving that ABV ? I don’t have really any strong feelings either way about them doing it, but is it still really beer ? Surely it’s not done with just yeast and without some form of distillation. I know sometimes they (BrewDog) like making more of a political statement than anything.

Okay so Ice Distillation is the answer.

Let’s see..start with a malted grain, ferment to get alcohol, distill to 110 proof…….maybe instead of naming it The End of History they should have went with, Crown Squirrel ?

Feel free to add to this sad, sad attempt at comedy with your own play on whiskey names ; )
